1.Complete the following exercises. In each case locate the state on sketches of the-y and -y diagrams.

(a) Four kg of water at 100°C fill a closed container having a volume of 1 m3. If the water at this state is a vapor, determine the pressure, in bar. If the water is a two-phase liquid-vapor mixture, determine the quality.

(b) Ammonia at a pressure of 40 lbf/in.2 has a specific internal energy of 308.75 Btu/lb. Determine the specific volume at the state, in ft3/lb.

2. Two kg of a two-phase, liquid-vapor mixture of carbon dioxide (CO2) exists at 240°C in a 0.05 m3 tank. Determine the quality of the mixture, if the values of specific volume for saturated liquid and saturated vapor CO2 at 240°C are yf 5 0.896 3 1023 m3/kg and yg 5 3.824 3 1022 m3/kg, respectively.
