DOC700 Doctoral Study Supervision
Module 1 Case
DSP PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT
Assignment Overview
Students in the DOC 700-702 courses must complete an Applied Research Project called Doctoral Study Project. Each course has specific passing requirements.
Case Assignment
In the first week of this session:
Contact your DSP chair, establish the most appropriate communication media (email or phone), times, and frequency to accomplish the goals of this class.
Submit your most current DSP draft following the DSP Template to your chair to receive feedback and establish a completion plan for your proposal. The DSP proposal includes the Chapter I Introduction, Chapter II Literature Review, and Chapter III Research Methodology. Refer to the DBA Handbook for the expectations of the proposal.
Continue working on your proposal following the feedback received from your chair and committee members. Use the Proposal Rubric to assess the readiness of your proposal.
When the committee chair thinks your proposal is ready for defense, he/she will ask the committee members to review it. When all committee members agree your document is ready to defend, the committee chair will coordinate with the director to schedule your proposal defense.
Assignment Expectations
Please follow the Proposal Rubric to prepare your proposal.
In the Methodology section of the proposal, please ensure the research complies with established ethical standards and principles (see DSP Handbook).
Submit your current proposal draft to Case 1 Dropbox. This draft should incorporate the feedback from the Prospectus Presentation in DOC690.

IRB DOCUMENTATION
Assignment Overview
In this module you will work on:
Consent form and Data Collection Instruments
IRB requirements
Case Assignment
Obtain your IRB Certificate of Completion. The steps are listed in the Handbook but were also copied here:
How to obtain the IRB Training Certificate
You must complete the Human Subjects Research Online Training available at the Protecting Human Research Participant (PHRP) Online Training website. This online training is intended for anyone involved in research studies with human subjects, or who have responsibilities for setting policies and procedures with respect to such research, including Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
To complete the training and obtain the certificate, go to https://phrptraining.com/#!/. Please note: The fee to complete the training is the responsibility of the student and must be paid directly to PHRP.
Once you complete the training, upload the proof of completion in the “1003 IRB Training Certificate” Dropbox folder in your DOC800. You will also need to upload the same certificate again in the “1004 IRB Application” after your proposal is approved.
Working on Data Collection Instruments
Once you identified the research methodology that you will follow in your research (i.e., case study, action research, process improvement, etc.), make sure you develop all data collection instruments such as interview protocol, focus group protocol, survey instrument, and procedures for data collection used as sources of evidence (i.e., documentation, archival records, direct observations, participant observation, physical artifacts), and follow IRB requirements.
In your literature review, one of the sections should describe in detail the research methodology you will follow and the expectations of each of the sources of evidence.
Assignment Expectations
These tasks should be completed while working on your proposal.
Please follow the Proposal Checklist and Proposal Rubric to assess your work.
Ensure the research complies with established ethical standards and principles (see DSP Handbook and IRB requirements).
Submit the following documents to the Case 1 Dropbox:
Data collection instruments
Consent form
IRB certificate training
This process may require multiple submissions until the last versions are fully approved.
