DQ1 Explain the history of community psychology and at least two major events that lead to the development of this field. Think of one current event in society that you think could be impacted by community psychology’s principles and explain your rationale.

DQ1 Why is scientific research important in community psychology? Provide an example of scientific research in community psychology (from a peer-reviewed journal article). Discuss what method of research was used and explain how the findings of this study support community psychology’s goals. Why is a needs assessment an important step in community intervention? Discuss some of the different methods that can be used to complete a needs assessment. Choose one of the examples listed under the "Examples" tab and summarize the information that was assessed from two community assessments. How did the two assessments you read about compare (discuss similarities and differences)?

Week 3 Discussion

DQ1 Community psychology focus on social justice is heavily rooted in Social and economic inequalities. What do this week’s readings say about successfully effecting social change (planned social change)? What strategies are important to consider, and can be helpful, for in implementing and sustaining social change? Include the advantages and disadvantages of each. Support your explanation with scholarly resources.

DQ2 Explore the Community Psychology’s Social Justice through Collaborative Research and Action website and read through some current research and issues under the “issues” tab https://www.communitypsychology.com/category/issues/. What are some prevalent social issues today? Chose an article that aligns with your interests and summarize the key findings. Week 4 Discussion

DQ1 How has the mental health system changed over time? How can the principles of community psychology assist in better serving individuals’ needs? Use scholarly sources to support your explanations, as well as specific examples from this week’s readings and/or outside research.

DQ2 Discuss ways in which those employed in a community setting can enhance their multicultural awareness, knowledge, and skills in order to better serve that community. Choose a population of your choice and describe five ways in which a counselor or advocate might establish a safe environment and convey cultural empathy.

DQ1 Based on this week’s readings, discuss one or two examples of how a community can initiate change. How important is it for communities to collaborate, strengthen, and build outside partnerships? Use scholarly resources to support your explanations.

DQ2 What do organizational and community psychology share, and where do they diverge from each other? Next, choose a community setting and identify some specific services that might benefit them, both on an organizational and a community level.

DQ1 Do some online research and summarize two school-based interventions (e.g., military boarding schools) that are available for the at-risk youth. Share the strengths and weaknesses of each program. Support your answer with a peer-reviewed journal article and include the APA citation and permalink.

DQ2 Explain some of the risk and protective factors associated with juvenile delinquency. Share at least one prevention program for at-risk youth in the justice system (e.g., diversion programs) and ways community psychology can mitigate some of these risk factors.
