Discussion: Open Loop And Closed Loop Control

In recent years, control  systems have played a central role in the development and advancement of  modern technology and civilization. Practically every aspect of our  day-to-day life is affected by some type of control system. In  industrial settings, we find control systems in the quality control of  products, weapons system, transportation systems, power systems, space  technology, robotics, and much more. Control systems can be classified  as open-loop and closed-loop control systems. Closed-loop control  systems can also be further classified as proportional (P), Proportional  Integral (PI), or proportional Integral derivative controllers (PID).

Please review the following resources as a guide.

  • PID Control (Links to an external site.) https://vivekbose.com/introduction-to-pid-controller-with-detailed-ppipd-pd-control
  • Open Loop and Closed Loop Control  https://www.electronics-tutorials.ws/systems/open-loop-system.html

Discuss detailed comparison of P, PI, and PID controllers including

  • Performance benefits
  • Applications
  • Limitations
