Tender is the Night Summary
Dick Diver and Franz are friends as well as young psychiatrists. A lady sexually abused by her father, Nicole, becomes their patient. As her treatment progresses, Dick fell in love with her, who, in turn, develops Florence Nightingale syndrome. When Dick recognizes that, he determines to marry her. To this, Nicole’s sister put an objection as she thought that DIck is marrying Nicole for the money.
After the death of his father, Dick travels to America and then to Rome, where he had an affair with a young actress, Rosemary. Their relationship ended abruptly due to which he argued with the police and went to jail. After that, he faced humiliation and gradually develops the drinking problem. At the end of the story, Dick and Nicole divorced because of Dick’s drinking problem and his affair with Rosemary.
